Does Homeland Security protect us?

A few weeks ago, I began reading the book, Son of Hamas, a memoir written by Mosab Hassah Yousef. His father is one of the founders of Hamas. His book recounts his life as a radicalized Palestinian in Israel, and his transition to become a spy for Israel who was willing to risk torture and death to save Israeli and Palestinian lives.

Exhausted from the years spent living a double life, Yousef left the Middle East for the United States. Seven months after arriving here, he went to Homeland Security and asked for political asylum. Homeland Security responded by trying to deport him. If he is forced to leave, it will likely cost him his life and our country a valuable asset in the war against terror.

He has offered to help our country fight against terrorism. He has described how al-Qaeda is becoming more like Hamas. "Al-Qaeda started with huge attacks like September 11. But Bin Laden has learned from Hamas's war against Israel how to bleed its enemy. Al-Qaeda understands how effective the Hamas strategy will be on American soil," states Mr. Yousef in his blog post.

What is wrong with Homeland Security? They cannot tell the difference between someone like Yousef and real terrorists? They label Tea Partiers dangerous radicals that need to be watched and allow known terrorists to be tried as American citizens. The head of it has declared our southern border - safe and secure. What is the next danger or evil they will ignore? Who will they attack next? They have access to extremely classified information and the ability to severely infringe upon our liberty. Mistakes will happen but there is a dangerous pattern forming. I believe it is time, for Congress to investigate Homeland Security. They need to be held accountable. Join me in demanding better from Washington.
